BPH Dietary Help
Diet & Lifestyle
Diet for enlarged prostate conditions are complex and require effective time management due to the freshness required and the near absences of pre-processed and pre-cooked foods as staples in the diet. Know going in that price is also going to be a factor in this lifestyle change if you happen to not be an experienced shopper of organic fruits and vegetables. They cost more than standard produce.
The natural diet method is not a proved cure for BPH or any condition where the prostate gland is enlarged. It is, however, common knowledge that fresh fruits and vegetables will replace lost nutrient and mineral stores to the body which have been depleted by stress, lack of nutritional value in processed foods and restaurant meals, and improper food combinations which rob the diet of effective metabolization of nutrients available through fresh fruits and vegetables.
On the subject of affordability, fresh foods are less expensive than pharmaceuticals and artificial supplements. The patient/consumer has the ability to go out and shop and see for themselves, measuring cost-benefits for themselves after following some simple guidelines in this article as to what groups are best to include in the diet.
Fruit and Vegetable Regimen.
When making fresh, whole and raw foods the staple of the diet, one should avoid eating processed foods. What is considered processed food? Almost anything that is contained in a can, box, or plastic bag on a store shelf has been put through some kind of mechanical or chemical process to give it the qualities it has which make it last on a shelf with degrading or losing appeal as something edible. Fresh fruits and vegetables come directly from the source with no more processing than it takes to get them into a crate, onto and off of a truck which hauls them to market, and then onto a produce rack at your store or farm stand. Eat what is in season so that you know the produce has not been transported across a hemisphere or fourteen time zones in cold storage to make it to your shelves. For optimal prostate health, the following fruit varieties are positive diet factors- grapes, apples, mango, oranges, and strawberries. Notice these are positive for fighting free radicals in the cells and aid with elimination and lowering the toxicity of the bowels. Vegetable should include carrots, caper, olives, asparagus, many different varieties of non-hot spices and herbs.
Water Regimen.
Prostate ailments may not be medically traceable to water shortages in the body. However, sufferers of enlarged prostate symptoms who begin drinking at least 64 ounces of fresh oxygenated water daily before 5 pm report a relief of symptoms. The oxygenating power of water and its effects on helping the body cleanse itself impact enlarged glands. The immune system needs water to help the body fight infection or the immune system gets overtaxed and shuts down. The immune system is key to overall physical balance and health. If you are suffering from urinary tract symptoms of the enlarged prostate, supplement water with 8 ounces of unsweetened cranberries twice per week.
Herbal Supplement Regimen.
Mild to moderate symptoms of BPH are positively influenced by the introduction of beta-sitosterols to the diet. Saw palmetto, fresh sugar cane and cane juice, or africanum pygeum extract are all great sources of beta-sitosterols.
Flax Seed Regimen.
Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids are essential toners for the digestive system and aid the body in being able to absorb and use nutrients the body needs for health and well-being. Whole food sources beside flax seed include fresh oily fish meats and cod liver oil. Olive oil is another non-fish compound rich in the omega fatty acid complexes. Basil is an excellent plant-based source of omegas.
Mineral Regimen.
Zinc aids in cell development and immune system support. What the immune system doesn’t have to transport to the cells because zinc intake is up to snuff, the more it will have to protect other vital interests throughout the body. De-taxing the immune system allows the body to self-balance. Whole food sources of zinc are oysters, crab, shrimp, lobster, seaweed, chicken meat and eggs, fresh pork, and lean cuts of beef.
Vitamin D Regimen.
A multi-vitamin source, a direct full dosage Vitamin D supplement or whole grain breads, fresh organic butter, and eggs are all excellent sources. Milk and other dairy products are loaded with Vitamin D but can be problematic for how much calcium these foods require. This is why many experts suggest a Vitamin D supplement to assure adequate supply in the daily diet.
Vitamin E Regimen.
Broccoli, spinach, peanut butter, sunflower oil, almonds and wheat oil are excellent sources. Certain food allergies may restrict some of these as sources. A supplement may be needed as a way to get the routine amounts into the diet.
