BPH Surgical Treatment e1314211964208 BPH Surgical TreatmentEnlarged prostate surgery is increasingly a fact of life for men over the age of 50 where BPH has morphed into more startling medical realities.  Lifestyle changes and medical treatments have possibly been tried to no avail before the patient has opted for one of four commonly practice surgical procedures.  Some patients suffer so grievously from the enlarged gland they move directly to surgical intervention after weighing the risks of surgery.  A fuller view is obviously in order before making such a decision.

Overview
Enlarged prostate surgery is effective. Surgery has received acclaim as the ultimate longer-term solution for benign prostate hyperplasia.  The surgery has been ruled effective against the common symptoms assoiciate with BPH.  There are surgical varieties and each present multiple options for patients.  Patients are encouraged to find out from their doctors about the differences among and within each varietal group, plus, patients should be aware of which procedure is most suitable for their specific medical situation.

Enlarged Prostate Surgery

The first option to be  summarized in this article is a resection method where the gland is largely removed through the urethra.  The excision, or removal, involves the inner part of the gland.  The procedure is deployed most commonly in severe cases of BPH, in fact, in 90% of all BPH surgeries.  The use of a scope routed through the urethra makes this preferres surgical method virtually scarring proof.

The second option is direct removal of the prostate through an incision into the urinary tract.  This procedure is referred to as a prostatectomy.  It is suited for conditions where the prostate is grossly enlarged and when the tissue may be heavily damaged.

The third option is a laser procedure that destroys prostate tissue.  Tissue volume can be reduced to the level  where the gland is reduced in size or completely removed.  There are limits however in how oversized the prostate may be in order for the patient to benefit from this procedure.

The fourth procedure addresses bladder constriction at the point of contact with the prostate.  Should the gland have swelling sufficient to constrict the urethral opening, the surgeon will enter the urethra with a laser device for making a series of incisions to relax the muscle tissues in the general area.  The procedure generally requires an overnight hospital stay.

Look Before You Leap.  The four types of enlarged prostate surgery require good communication between patient and doctor.  These techniques are meant to address a host of different medical issues surrounding the swollen prostate and the many conditions it may precipitate for a patient’s health.  Early detection is the best defense against prostate cancer.  And it needs to be emphasized that regular annual checkups will include a prostate checkup as part of the routine exam.  That is the time when doctors can advise their patient on changes in diet, exercise, and other lifestyle choices that will give patients a non-surgical strategy for healing.  In order to optimize choices, regular routine medical care can flag any non-symptomatic conditions of prostate enlargement.
